Survivor Picks Week 5 (2023 NFL Season)

Week 5 of the NFL season is here, and hopefully, you made the right choice last week in survivor pools. As for my record regarding the Top 5 Survivor picks in the 2023 NFL Season, I went 4-1 in Week 1, 3-2 in Week 2, Week 3 I went 2-3, and last week I went 5-0. For the entire 2023 season my record in Top 5 Survivor options is 14-6. Now that Week 4 is behind us, I'm back to give you my Top 5 Suggestions for survivor pools, identify a trap survivor game, and give an option I would have went with.

1. Detroit Lions vs Carolina Panthers

Carolina is an absolute mess right now. Their defense is sorely missing Shaq Thomplson at linebacker and their run defense has not looked great. You know who has not looked great for Carolina this year, Bryce Young. Young has not looked great this season and the Panthers really regret not drafting C.J. Stroud. It doesn’t help that Carolina’s o-line is abysmal and Detroit’s defense is going to destroy this offense.

Carolina is a mess right now, but hey if the season goes the wrong direction, Carlina will get a top pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft to help fix the team. Oh wait, the Panthers 1st round pick is property of the Chicago Bears trade due to the trade up to get Bryce Young. Well that really sucks for Carolina.

Anyways Detroit is the clear play here and the top option in survivor.

2. Miami Dolphins vs New York Giants

I don’t want to be that guy, but do the Giants even have a chance at winning this game? I mean I don’t know what is worse, the Giants defense or their offense. I mean it's obvious how much of a mess the Giants offense is without OT Andrew Thomas and RB Saquon Barkley. Many forget that the Giants defense has been putrid as well and probably worse than Miami’s defense is. Miami’s defense may be awful, but they should take care of business against a bad Giants team.

3. Kansas City Chiefs at Minnesota Vikings

Mahomes did not perform like he normally did last week against the Jets. Luckily, they escaped that game with the win, thanks to the heinous refball that occurred in that game. Luckily this week the Chiefs will face a much weaker team in Minnesota and Mahomes should look a lot better against the Vikings awful defense. While the game is in Minnesota, the Chiefs should take care of business.

4. New York Jets at Denver Broncos

This legit could be the only chance to take the Jets in survivor. Especially as Denver is an absolute trainwreck, especially on defense. Yes I know there is still a question mark on which Zach Wilson the Jets will get, but the Broncos defense is the worst in football. I mean if a defense can be called a fall from grace from where they were last season, Denver’s defense is on the list. Also, can someone explain to me why Vance Joseph is still the defensive coordinator of this team. Breece Hall is no longer on a pitch count and he will likely run all over the Broncos defense. While Wilson is not the problem and has been solid this season, the Jets defense is going to be a handful for Denver. Taking the jets could be a solid play to make here.

5. Washington Commanders vs Chicago Bears

Yuck, this has to go in the risk pick section as not only is this a game being played on Thursday Night Football, but I am not so sure both teams are great. Washington has faced bad teams excluding the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills. However, Chicago is significantly worse. The Bears have the worst defense, offense, and coach. There is a legit chance that Matt Eberflus could be gone after this season due to how bad the Bears have been and whatever the hell happened with Alan Williams re-signing his role. Honestly have the Bears had a great coach since they fired Lovie Smith? I don't think they have had one great coach since.

This might be the last chance to take the Commanders in survivor, so if you want to go risky here, take the Commanders.

Trap Game - Baltimore Ravens vs Pittsburgh Steelers

A lot of people in survivor have been taking the Ravens in survivor. Especially when QB Kenny Pickett went down with injury. While it is a bone bruise, it would not be a shock if the Steelers play it safe and rest Pickett for this game. Here is the thing, I have a feeling that Mitchell Trubisky might be better than Kenny Pickett. Pickett has been horrible the past few weeks this season. Yes, I know Matt Canada is the worst offensive coordinator in the league, but Pickett’s throws have not been great. I think Trubisky will do fine as the QB and don’t forget Pittsburgh’s defense is solid as well. Still overrated, but a solid defense.

Also, Baltimore has kind of been sneakily awful too. Mainly due to the insane number of injuries they have had. While Lamar was good last week, he has had some rough moments this year. Plus, this is a divisional game, and the Ravens/Steelers is a rough rivalry. I would not take the bait, stay away from the Ravens in survivor.

Record (4-0) - Week 1: Seattle Seahawks, Week 2: Denver Broncos, Week 3: Tennessee Titans, Week 4: Chicago Bears

Who I Would Have Went in Survivor - New York Jets

Well let's rule out the Washington Commanders as in this scenario I would have not been able to take the Commanders. I want to save the Chiefs and Dolphins as both have a ton of future value in survivor. This pick came down to the New York Jets or the Detroit Lions. The goal in these pools is to survive and advance, but there are just opportunities that are way too good to pass on. I would have taken the New York Jets this week in survivor.

Record (3-1) - Week 1: Washington Commanders, Week 2: Buffalo Bills, Week 3: Jacksonville Jaguars, Week 4: Philadelphia Eagles
