Should Tobias Harris stay with the Philadelphia 76ers?

The Philadelphia 76ers are coming off a season where they finished 54-28 in the 2022-23 NBA season. They lost in the East Semifinals to the Boston Celtics in a series that went to Game 7.

Once the post game interviews ended and the team began to look to the offseason, rumors of the Sixers shopping forward Tobias Harris came out. Harris, 30, is set to finish out his 5YR/180M dollar max extension this upcoming season. The same deal they decided to give to Harris, over Jimmy Butler.

This season for the Philadelphia 76ers, Tobias Harris averaged 14.7 PPG, 5.7 REB, 2.5 AST, along with 38% from 3. Harris was given the role of the 4th scorer by Head Coach Doc Rivers, between the likes of Joel Embiid, James Harden, and Tyrese Maxey. By no means did Harris do wrong in his role this season. The biggest issue is his max contract. The 76ers are in a sticky situation financially , with little room to upgrade the roster.

Harris was mentioned to be targeted by teams like the Pacers, Kings, and Jazz prior to the 2023 NBA Draft. However, no draft day trade was made by Daryl Morey and the 76ers. Morey, has mentioned how much Tobias Harris means to this team, even reportedly asking the Cleveland Cavaliers for a package of star forward Evan Mobley and picks. So this makes you think, will Tobias Harris be moved this offseason?

The short answer I have is, wait and see. The Sixers should grasp the market before making any early moves. If reports that Daryl Morey's value of Harris is true, there are no trades being rushed to by the Sixers. If the Sixers are not offered a interesting package, Harris will be welcomed back by the franchise. With the Sixers running the group of Harden, Maxey, Harris, Tucker, and Embiid back for the 2023-24 NBA season. Only time will tell this offseason, but it looks more likely Harris returns for his 6th season with the Sixers.
