Inter Miami CF Welcomes Messi, Busquets

Less than 24 hours, Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets were unveiled in pink at DRV PNK in Fort Lauderdale. The celebration obviously had unreal expectations and was, also obviously, unreal.

Messi has been signed on a two-and-a-half season contact, putting his total contract at an estimated $125m for the contract. The 4x Champions League, and Olympics, winner comes with an impressive 129 goals, second only in the league to Ronaldo.

Busquets, a Spanish native, has played his entire career at FC Barcelona, raking in 19 goals and 40 assists. Busquets was signed to a 5-year Designated Player contract. The Spaniard also played with Gerardo 'Tato' Martino, winning the 2013 Supercopa together.

The question remaining: who's going to coach? Tato, Inter Miami's interim head coach since Neville's exit, began his career with a stunning 3-0 loss to St. Louis City. Although a heartwarming welcome for all parties involved, Inter Miami has never won a championship. Inter Miami also plays at a temporary stadium until the completion of Freedom Park stadium. Finally, Inter Miami sits at the very bottom, with a 5-3-14 record at 15th in the Eastern Conference. Since 2020, Miami hasn't broken the double digits, as far as standings are concerned.

Miami now has the franchise that they want; a tropical maelstrom, adorned in pink, with two of the greatest international players seated in Designated Player slots. Since the departure of Blaise Matuidi, and the scandal of Jorge Mas in 2021, Inter Miami has been trying to fix the stigma surrounding their team.
